Ever wonder how clear braces could get you that straighter smile?

You may already be familiar with Invisalign, either through a TV or magazine advertisement, but just in case you aren't, these clear, invisalignremovable aligners are used to shift teeth into their proper position. Invisalign is used to fix common malocclusions and other dental imperfections like crooked teeth, spacing issues and crowding. But how is it possible to straighten teeth with nearly invisible aligners that look similar to a mouthguard? Our Hudson dentists Dr. Thanh Mai and Dr. Thomas Salinas are here to explain!

From protruding teeth to gapping smiles, there are so many dental problems that Invisalign can tackle. Invisalign uses a series of clear, custom-fitted aligners that are designed to fit over your upper or lower teeth to move them into their proper place. But what makes this clear orthodontic appliance able to move teeth? Well, our Hudson general dentist plays a role.

Once we deem your smile ideal for this treatment, we will use our special Invisalign computer program to help create your treatment plan. This plan will include what teeth will move and how much they will move to give you the smile you want. Each aligner will be designed to shift certain teeth a very specific amount until you achieve the perfect smile.

Impressions of your teeth will also need to be taken. These impressions are used to create a 3-D model of your teeth on the computer so that we can decide the first and final position of your teeth to get you the desired look. Then this information is sent to an Invisalign lab where they will make your aligners.

Every aligner you wear will fit snugly over your teeth, and through controlled force will move teeth safely and effectively. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks, for at least 22 hours out of the day. They should only be removed before eating and drinking, as well as brushing and flossing.
